| Browser - the program You use to view these pages, pages on the internet, and the pages You will be building/creating. The two most common browsers are Microsoft's Internet Explorer, and Netscape's Navigator/Communicator. |
| Click - this mean to click the mouse button, unless specified to "right click" it will always mean a left button click. This will often be used to get the attention to a link. For example: Click Here. |
| Default - the automatic selection, for example the default color of the sky is blue, it is usually blue unless something else is happening like sunset, thunderstorm, nuclear fallout, etc. |
| File or Files - documents on a computer, documents can be either text, graphic, sound, or anything else that can be saved on a computer. |
| Folder - a container for files on a computer either Your computer or a server's. Folders are also called directories in an O.S. other than or earlier than Windows95. |
| FTP - File Transfer Protocol, this is the means that most files are sent to the internet when building a web page on a server. |
| HTML - HyperText Markup Language, this is the language used when writing Web pages to be read by a browser. |
| HTTP - HyperText Transfer Protocol, this is the method computers recieve html pages to be viewed. An http:// address is simply an internet address to a site or web page. |
| IE or I.E. - throughout this guide assume that IE means Microsoft's Internet Explorer and not an Example. Often IE4 is used to mean Internet Explorer version 4.0 |
| Key - means a key on the keyboard, often I have told someone to hit the enter key and they will get upset and say "but I don't see enter on my screen?!?!?". *grin* |
| HTML - Hyper Text Markup Language, this is the language used when writing Web pages to be read (viewed) by a browser. |
| Pixel - the distance of one dot on Your screen. This is a common measurement used in graphics and screen resolutions, and this distance will vary from one resolution to the next. |
| O.S. or OS - the Operating System this is simply Windows3.X, Windows95, Windows98, UNIX, Linux, etc. |
| URL - Uniform Resource Locator, the address to a certain file, folder, or a server on the internet. |
