Preface

In this documentation there will be references to several words that I wish to explain before getting started.
*** (3 astericks) will be used when something is incomplete, like the beginning of a link to a file on a server (http://www.microsoft.com/***).
Browser - the program You use to view these pages, pages on the internet, and the pages You will be building/creating. The two most common browsers are Microsoft's Internet Explorer, and Netscape's Navigator/Communicator.
Click - this mean to click the mouse button, unless specified to "right click" it will always mean a left button click. This will often be used to get the attention to a link. For example: Click Here.
Default - the automatic selection, for example the default color of the sky is blue, it is usually blue unless something else is happening like sunset, thunderstorm, nuclear fallout, etc.
File or Files - documents on a computer, documents can be either text, graphic, sound, or anything else that can be saved on a computer.
Folder - a container for files on a computer either Your computer or a server's. Folders are also called directories in an O.S. other than or earlier than Windows95.
FTP - File Transfer Protocol, this is the means that most files are sent to the internet when building a web page on a server.
HTML - HyperText Markup Language, this is the language used when writing Web pages to be read by a browser.
HTTP - HyperText Transfer Protocol, this is the method computers recieve html pages to be viewed. An http:// address is simply an internet address to a site or web page.
IE or I.E. - throughout this guide assume that IE means Microsoft's Internet Explorer and not an Example. Often IE4 is used to mean Internet Explorer version 4.0
Key - means a key on the keyboard, often I have told someone to hit the enter key and they will get upset and say "but I don't see enter on my screen?!?!?". *grin*
HTML - Hyper Text Markup Language, this is the language used when writing Web pages to be read (viewed) by a browser.
Pixel - the distance of one dot on Your screen. This is a common measurement used in graphics and screen resolutions, and this distance will vary from one resolution to the next.
O.S. or OS - the Operating System this is simply Windows3.X, Windows95, Windows98, UNIX, Linux, etc.
URL - Uniform Resource Locator, the address to a certain file, folder, or a server on the internet.

Things to keep in mind...
